Week 2

First Matches In The Books

This Week Coming Up

This week we welcome girls to the mat for a free clinic! If you know a girl who might be interested in wrestling let them know that this Monday and Next Monday they are welcome to join us from 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Our schedule is going to have Tuesday and Thursday practices as usual.

Wednesday we are bringing back Coach Joziah! We have offered him a legitimate NIL contract! Looking to sign him in the next few days! He ran an amazing practice for our U15 kids. Can’t wait to see what he has next.

KWK Quad I Results

I don’t know about everyone else but 4 duals on a Sunday was a great way to spend the day! We even got scrimmages for everyone. AND we had an open mat practice for the U10 kids too! The goal is at least 2 matches, but really we want to see everyone getting a 3 - 4 matches in a day. A big thanks to the teams that came out and competed and even more to the High Schoolers who came to help out as well! It means a lot knowing we have support from North Attleborough Wrestling! Over 100 athletes came to Next Movement this Sunday between the two groups!

There was some great wrestling in the room and our kids showed some high potential. I think by the time this post season comes our kids are going to be surprising a lot of other teams!

Somerset jumped out to an 18 point lead early in this contest. But the experienced part of our lineup stepped up in a big way closing the gap quickly! Phin Keating, Jonel Cruz, Ryan Gill, and James Lurie all put their opponents eyes to the ceiling to chase down the lead and pull away from Somerset. With a full lineup in tact we came out to the 54-36 victory!

Holliston was next! AJ Silverstein a 5th grader in our lineup pulled off some impressive matches for KWK. With a late first period pin, AJ started the team off on the right foot. Holliston pulled off a few pins of their own to give themselves the lead and going into the final matches KWK need two big performances to pull off the victory. Aschi Dempsey got the comeback started by sticking his opponent and the victory was sealed when first year wrestler, Logan Thornhill-Noviello was able to get the match sealing pin for the win! Not only is it Logan’s first year, but he came late and has only two practices under his belt so far!

Scituate was perhaps the best performance of the day! With pins from Landon Roderick, and Ethan Conchard-Freitas the team pulled away to early early lead. John Nagelberg also came up strong earning the team 6 points in just 22 seconds! Scituate is a strong program year over year, and after warming up the team was ready to go with its strongest performance.

The final match didn’t go our way. But Milford is perennially one of the top teams in the state and I am sure that as the year goes on this program will see some big improvements! Big performances this match out of AJ Silverstein again with a huge technical upset of his opponent. AJ had a history with his opponent and because of his hard work he overtaken and righted the ship on his young rivalry. Another highlight of this dual was Kevin Chawan stepping into the varsity lineup for the final performance of the day. Putting his opponent to the mat and earning a pin.

Huge shout out to Jonel Cruz and Aschi Dempsey for going 3-0 on the day with 3 pins!

Overall as a coach I can’t complain about a 3-1 day! But, the biggest takeaway is the amount of pins we get and give up. 4 duals with 17 athletes in each dual means there were 68 total opportunities to wrestle. Only 1 was ended with time expiring. Over the next few weeks, survival skills will be worked on so our athletes can not only apply the pressure but they can get out of it too!

Additional Benefits Coming Soon

I’m going to be adding to this season!

I have spoken to a nutritionist in our area, Jennifer Hoyle started a company “Fill Your Cup” which focuses on basic good nutrition for kids and adults. I have asked if she could come in and speak with our kids and parents about some basic fuel for events. Easy tips and tricks to help educate all of us on better nutrition to fuel up for competition.

I am also talking to some different venues and businesses in our area for some fun parent nights. If you’re interested let me know! I wanted to do an activity potentially for parents who stick around for practice. Let me know if that’s an idea worth doing or if I’m a big lameo for trying!
